General Trias Cavite's 7th City

General Trias is preparing for a plebiscite in October to become the seventh city in Cavite and the country's 145th city.

President Benigno Aquino III has approved a law converting the town of General Trias 
in Cavite province into a city. 
Aquino signed Republic Act 10675, or the Charter of the City of General Trias.

As a city, General Trias will have the power to sue and be sued; to have and use a corporate seal; to acquire, hold and convey real or personal property; and to enter into any contract or agreement.

The conversion of General Trias to a city was approved, as it has met the requirements set by the Local Government Code:
  •  A locally generated income of at least P100 million for the last two consecutive years (as certified by the Department of Finance)
  •  A population of 150,000 or more (as certified by the National Statistics Office) or a contiguous territory of 100 square kilometers (as certified by the Land Management Bureau)

Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr., chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government, is the sponsor of House Bill No. 4769 or “An Act Converting the Municipality of General Trias in the Province of Cavite into a Component City to be known as the City of General Trias.”
“From an agriculture-based locality, General Trias has evolved into a progressive municipality with a steady growth of industry and real estate development,” Marcos said in his sponsorship speech.
He also reiterated the conversion of General Trias into a component city will not reduce the income of Cavite province to less than the minimum annual income requirement of P20 million under the Local Government Code.
